no sex if he smokes ^^
for every smoked cigarette one day no sex. i bet hes gonna stop within a week ; )
Take away his money,
He can’t buy what he can’t afford.
get those nicorette gums and give them to him secretly.
apparently, the nicotine addiction is only in you body for 3 days (after you “last” smoke) and after that its just will power to keep away from it.
just..kill him
He’s addicted. You can’t change his mind for him; only he can make up his mind to quit.
if u have kids like me you can tell them to see if your husband is smoking
Just tell him you don’t want to lose him…
If that doesn’t work just buy him nicotine patches.
thats a hard one. maybe give him some incentive or offer to quit something for him
give him patches. and those flavored gum that help you stop smoking.
he wont quit unless he wants too but nicotene patches work
Tell him u wont hug him or kiss him until he quits xD
Thats how i got my dad to quit :3
i had the same thing happen. My boyfriend kept telling me he would quit and he finally did. I told i wanted him to be around for awhile. He quit it was hard at first. He is having nictine tablets. He was using suckers at first and complaing he wanted one.At first I gave him one in the morning and one at night. He has one every now and then but he did quit. So i hope everything turns out good. Good Luck!!
He will do it when he wants to. That isn’t a great answer but the more you pressure him about it the more he will stress and have a cigarette. Tell him about Champix (or Chantix if you are an American) I quit 2 months ago now after taking those.
Smoking Frog is right, if you do not have sex with him. You will absolutely starve him. He will eventually give up.
Just start smoking yourself & smoke around him as much as you can.
Hopefully he will understand what’s it like to be on the other side.
tell him the dangers of smoking.
also um take away his cigarettes for a few days or so have him chew on that nicotine gum; (used to help quit smoking) keep him eating and busy so he wont have time for a smoke.
good luck!
You can’t get him to stop smoking. He has to make up his own mind to stop by himself. And it’s hard. I’ve never even tried smoking, but I hear getting off cigarettes is like stopping a heroin addiction. What amazes me is that I wonder why anyone would ever want to pick up cigarette number one knowing how addicting they are. And such a filthy stinky habit.
First try to get him to cutt back Instead of qutting cold turkey. The mentality of thinking this way might work for some and not others. A chewing gum he enjoys might help or If he likes sports & has the time, a gym membership with different activities like swimming, weights, running, basketball etc. Good luck!
Refuse to Kiss him…but really you cant make someone do something because you dont like it…Smoking is a Very serious Addiction, that’s extremely hard to Quit. It will take a Death Scare to make him think about it.
I know how you feel, as a former smoker myself.
I can tell you that is a decision only he can make just like myself. I wouldn’t stop not even for my no one. Not even my oldest Grand Daughter.
I hope he sees the error of his ways, and comes to that decision soon before it is too late.
He may not really want to quit, or the addiction may be too hard to break. Ask him if he really wants to quit. If he does, support him fully. Check out http://www.smokefree.gov
you need to stop worrying about it. you can’t make him. ask him if he wants to quit? ask him when he wants to and what is his plan for doing it. accept the fact that he may smoke forever and might die of lung cancer. don’t let him smoke in the house, around you or around any children. you can protect yourself from exposure to 2nd hand smoke. but stop trying to get him to quit. start being more empathetic about his smoking. understand what he enjoys about it and why he keeps doing it. try to really understand and support him in any decision he makes.
Hmm….
-No sex
-He can chew the smoking gum instead
-He can wear that patch thingie…
-Stop buying his favorite foods!
-Tell him smoking is a turn off for you
-Hide his lighter and all of his cigs(for the fun of it)
-Poke him until he stops >.>
-Bribe him with awsome like foods he loves
-Give him something or reward him somehow for every week he doesn’t light up(use sex, men always like that xP)
The list can go on and on.
you can’t. sorry, but as with any addiction, the individual has to want to quit. All the begging, pleading, threatening, bribing, etc. will be futile. Even seeing pictures of diseased lungs, people with stomas, isn’t enough. My Dad died from lung cancer last year. I haven’t quit yet. I hate it but at this point in my life, I need it. Not an excuse, just a reason.
make him eat the cigarette while it is lit up!
or tell him if he doesn’t quit smoking, you won’t cook for him ever again (or something like that.)
=]
It’s the same thing with my Mom… She’s 40 and she’s been smoking since like 18… I always ask her to quit but and she says ‘i will quit’… but never does…
My mom has really started to quit, she’s gone 2 months now (and that’s great for her) what you need to do is just tell him… Me and my little brother were crying and crying because we didn’t want our mom to get cancer and we went her crying like ‘we don’t want our mom to die’ and then my brother went out and took all her cigarette boxes and got them soaked, so my mom got really pissed and he just said ‘I refuse to see you dying of lung cancer and know i could have done something to stop it’ so then she started trying really hard for her children… if he loves you he’ll do it… you just have to tell him and don’t be afraid to get emotional… hope this helps
YOU can not tell anyone else what to do! If your husband is anything like me, every time you tell him to quit, he’ll smoke an extra pack, just to spite you! HE has to quit, when HE is ready to do it! Stop Nagging Him! You may finally get the result you want.
you cant make someone quit, they have to want to quit themselves.
if he’s been smoking for that long, then it isnt going to be as easy as just not smoking. it’s quite a hard thing to do if you have been smoking for that long. could take him a lot of trys to actually quit. and will get a lot of withdrawl syptoms and other health effects, especially if he’s a heavy smoker (if he is talk to a doctor first!)
i hate it when people think quiting is a easy thing to do and people can just do it in a second! it’s not like that!!
It sounds like guilt about smoking isn’t really working. I recommend trying to focus on the health benefits of quitting. The fact is nobody is glad they smoke. Everyone I have met who smokes wants to quit already. It is just matter of motivating them and finding what will give them the courage to do what they already want to do. I think you may be amazed all of the health benefits of quitting. See the article I put as a source below.
Also I think it is definitely worth speaking to a doctor. There are 2 medications (besides nicotine gum/patches) that have had some good success in helping people quit. Welbutrin is one, and the newest is Chantix. Ask the doctor if he has perscribed Chantix before. There is a bit of an art form to using it (starting slow and increasing the dose over time, staying at that dose for the right amount of time until they quit, and most importantly tapering it appropriately at the end). It really may be worth a try. Talk to your doc.
Just say, ‘If you keep lying about quiting smoking, Theres going to be a problem with us!’ Or like No sex until you quit. Heres another way. Everytime he buys cigarettes, THROW THEM AWAY! haha That might work good. Hope this helps =)
A BJ at the end of every day he doesn’t smoke. You smoke…no blow!
You cant do that!!! You are not the smoker he is! Obviously he enjoys it. Has to be his decision!
Show him pictures of lung cancer..google pictures and keep showing them nasty pictures. Tell him that you want to share the rest of your life with him. With him smoking, it’s a possibility he could get sick (God forbid) Just keep pushing the issue, he will thank you once he has realized that he feels better. You could actually tell him if he quits, to put the money he spent for cigarettes in a jar and have a fun vacation wherever you want to go. Or pay off some of the bills that have been a burden forever…we all have those ya know. You’ll be amazed on how much money you guys will save! Btw, patches are the best way to go. What you want to do is to place the patch on before you go to sleep. This way he won’t have a craving while he’s sleeping, it’s worked into his system somewhat. When he wakes up, that’s where you come in. You’ll have to help give him the support he needs to keep it going. After the 3 or 4 day, the cravings should stop. Important to do the steps that they offer as well.
You can’t. He has to want to quit before it can happen. And no amount of nagging, coercion or threats will make him want to quit. In fact, the more you nag, the more angry he will get and that will INCREASE his resistance to quitting. I smoked for years just to prove that no one could force me to stop.
When he decides, for his own reasons, to quit, he will. But nothing you say or do will hasten that day. You will just damage your marriage.
its hard to convince him, ive been trying to get my dad since i was 6 and now im 24. if u have kids u could say u are hurting the kids health. get him to try the gum. that helped my dad cut down a lot although he still smokes, but for sure not as much
Give him some literature on the NEW means they have for people to quit smoking. I quit 6 months ago with a madication called “Chantix”. It worked wonderfully, and I am sure that ANY insurance you have will pay for it. It (basically) blocks the receptors in the brain that crave nicotine, and thus, lowers the URGE to smoke. Also, make sure that there are lots of sugar-free candies, gum, or other “oral” objects, which will satiate his need for the oral stimulation that smoking gives to one who smokes. It is NOT JUST the smoking, but also the “act” of hand to mouth that smoking provides. (This is one reason why people claim that they gain weight when they quit, because they EAT more–AGAIN, the hand to mouth. ALSO…the 1-800-QUIT NOW line is one available option, if he would prefer the patch or gum, but this QUIT line can be a bit of a pain in the butt, for they wish to call you every couple of days to “see how you are doing, etc.” Yes…they are a support group, but I felt it more anoying then helpful. BUT–one thing you must do is BE a support…not a NAG on him. He needs to know that you love him for him, and THAT is totally separate from the smoking…you just would “like to have him around” for the few more years he WILL be, if he QUITS NOW. Good Luck to BOTH of you.
Ask youself why do you want him to quit smoking?
Your answer might be very obvious that you love him so much.If it is so, than never ever tell him straight to quit smoking.Try to convince him that how much you love him or whatever your answer is.
No Man will ever like if you tell him straight to quit something.
Try to find out more about his smokign habit. When does he smokes? and try to find out why he smokes? Does he smokes when he is happy ?Does he smokes when he is bored? Does he smokes while he is stressed?
Always work behind the scene as far as his smoking habit is concerned. He should not know that you are trying him to quit smoking. Try this,Tell him that how bad it smells and how unfortable it is for you to kiss him since he is smoking.(only after kissing part is done and make sure you show him lot of respect and love.) Also tell him that how much you care for him at the same time.Tell him that you do nto want to loose him ever and you do not want to see him dieing from cancer.
Love care and your patience will work for sure.Good luck
The thing is that you can’t make him quit. The motivation needs to come from within him, not from external pressure. I’m sure that he already knows that it’s bad for his health, knows *how* bad it is for his health…
All you can do is encourage him. His getting angry when you remind him is might really anger at himself for not being strong enough to conquer this thing that has enslaved him. He knows that he needs to quit, and knows that he’s not strong enough…
On the other hand, he may simply be saying that he’ll quit to appease you. You want him to quit, and when he says that he will is the only time you get off his back about it.
My suggestion is to sit down and ask him if he wants to quit. Tell him that you want to know what is going on in his heart/mind… that this has nothing to do with you and your desires. Make it all about him and what he wants.
Once you know what he really wants, then you can be supportive of that.
If he *really* doesn’t want to quit, then you’ll need to back off. Maybe strike a compromise between having a smoke-free home and allowing him to continue in what he wants to do (smoke outside, maybe?).
If he wants to quit, and is struggling with how, then the two of you need to discuss how you can be supportive without nagging. Find out what he wants from you by way of support.
Hi
The funny answer would be throw water on him! but being serious for a minute, if you can, take him to a CCU (coronary care) in any major hospital, it is full of people like me (and him) that thought “it will never happen to me”. I am now 110 days given up the crappy things and it’s still not easy, sorry to the silly responder that said it’s out of your body in 3 days, it’s not! and it is really hard, that is the 1st thing you have to realise in order to help him, next try daily incentives like a big calendar where all the family can see to cross the days off, that becomes important after the 1st 14 days or so and more the longer he stays off them, next big one is a big storage jar and put in the money each day that would have gone on cigs, again the longer he stays off them the bigger the motivation.
But as you are finding, the hardest bit is to stop in the 1st place, try getting him to your GP and get nicorette patches or inhalator on prescription, it’s a lot cheaper than paying retail and most docs are a big support. The NHS website has a free service which will send lots of advice to people giving up, I was really surprised that it really is good info, down to earth common sense, that can help pushing people to give up.
If you have kids, they should nag him aswell, but most of all do try to force him to see where he will end up if he doesn’t give the things up.
Good luck to you
Take care
The best method that has been created and most professionals agree is the best method of stop smoking is the Harvard School of Medicine study.
There are two reasons a person smokes; 1) A death wish and 2) to show someone or society that no one is going to tell the person what to do and that he or she is in control of their own life.
These are two very strong psychological reasons that make it difficult to reason with someone that smokes. Actually the person doesn’t smoke, the cigarette smokes, all the person does is suck.
To tell someone that smoking is bad for you and he has a death wish is like telling someone that is starving that food is bad for you. If he or she has a death wish and you tell them smoking is bad for you, they look at that as a good thing. If you tell someone that has a desire to prove something that smoking is bothering you, they think that’s a good thing again because it is now helping them prove that you are not going to tell them what to do.
Both things are very sick and disgusting logic, but it’s reality.
What you need to do is get the person to realize why they are smoking and that takes some work. To get to that root cause is not easy. I have found QRA testing works incredibly well and I’m sure there are other methods as well.
The physical addictions are easy to overcome. Once you stop smoking, it takes your body about 5 days to start producing the chemical for the nerve synapses to start functioning on their own and not dependent upon the nicotine to supply the nerve synapse.
I had 5 friends die of smoking related diseases in their early 50′s. It is the most insidious way to die. And the big problem is that it affects everyone around them in a very negative way. To watch someone die of lung cancer is just not a pretty sight especially when you see them spitting up blood and aspirating.
The Harvard Study tells you to determine how many cigarettes does he smoke per day. Each day, reduce it by one. When he reaches a point where he just has to have more, stop at that point and level out at that level. Then after a few days, start reducing again and repeat this until he has reached 0.
good luck with this
You can not change him. Accept that he is a smoker and move on. I know you know all the great reasons for him to stop, but HE has to WANT to quit.
Bottom line, YOU can not “get him” to quit…
putting the fire out usually works. you do realise you could just have asked for a divorce?
Take a quick click to a great website, http://www.whyquit.com
They gave me the courage and ammunition to quit cold turkey January 11, 2007! Never Take Another Puff!!
Free Videos and stories of people just like your loved one is what they need. I think you will be amazed!
If it bothers you so much, and he’s been smoking for 21 years. Then why the hell did you marry him?
I would get angry if my husband (the non smoker) kept harassing me about my smoking when he knew I smoked the day we met, and married me anyway. Good thing he’s not like that. He lets me smoke in the house, car and bedroom. Why can’t you be like him?
If you wanted a non smoker, why didn’t you marry one? Looks like you’re stuck with him honey.
