Giving Up Smoking – 9 Months Tobacco Free

9 months without a cig, I can’t believe it. For the first time in over 40 years I’ve gone more than 3 or 4 months without a cigarette and I can tell the difference in myself.

I haven’t got much to add to my diary this month it’s been a good one. I recovered from the chest infection that I had last month and feel much better. I do still get odd mornings when I wake up coughing, my throat is dry and my mouth tastes horrible. I reckon that’s still the gunge coming up out of my lungs.

Even though it’s been a cold winter it’s been the least painful as far as my Reynards disease problem is concerned for a number of years. That tells me that my circulation has improved. My teeth and gums have stopped hurting so hopefully the damage caused by smoking is reversing or at the least not getting any worse. So everything is good and hopefully it will stay that way.

My total savings now taking into account the cost of patches and e-cigs is now at least £800. I’ve already used the savings to put towards a new Sony Viao laptop, it looks a lot better than a stack of cigarette packets that I would have gone through doesn’t it? I haven’t decided what I’m going to treat myself next with saved cigarette money. I’ve been thinking about getting a guitar and learning how to play it, or maybe even put it towards a holiday.

If you have previously read my stop smoking diary you will know that I used electronic cigarettes to help me to quit. I heard this week that the British government are now considering banning e-cigs yet they allow the killer tobacco cigarettes to stay on sale. Should I quit smoking today or wait until after the weekend?

I haven’t had one today yet, but would really enjoy…. Thought I had a doctor’s appointment this morning but made a mistake, it’s this afternoon. Didn’t have one earlier cos I thought she might smell it and not be impressed (But I do want to give up and they are not agreeing with me at all at present). Friends coming to visit at weekend who are non-smokers, so it would be easier to have quit. Have quit so many times, read Alan Carr, did smoking cessation …..

Did you quit smoking without gaining weight?

If so how did you do it? I really want to quit smoking more than ever. I have been smoking for about 9 years. I now smoke 20 a day.
I have tried the gum, inhalers and patches and they haven’t worked.
I have read the Allen Carr book and i think it is great and i now have more determination than ever to quit…..but i haven’ t yet.
The problem is i am so fearful of putting on weight. I know that quitting is still healthier than putting on weight but it is so ingrained in my brain.
Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

Anyone want to be my quit smoking buddy?

I have given up smoking today, had my last one this morning, made myself really not enjoy it. Went to my GP and he’s given me 4mg gum. Had one, it’s ok. My dear husband won’t quit with me though so I need a buddy! Has anyone else given up smoking recently or is about to? Please get in touch.
