admin I see in Scotland they are planning to pay smokers £12-50 a week to quite smoking?
Well, is this right?
And where is this money coming from? Non-smoking tax-payers!
Has the world gone crazy. Have the authorities too much money to throw away?
So why aren`t the tobacco companies paying this money?
If the world HAS gone crazy, they might just as well.

I guess they figure, less to pay long term as fewer medical bills.
But can’t be right can it? Pay the burglars not to rob, killers not to kill? People need to take personal responsibility for their own lives and next expect handouts.

The financial benefits of quitting are already there, in the money you save
Only non-smokers pay taxes? NO
Does not paying them, and having them continue to smoke save non-smokers in the long run? NO (see healthcare costs for smokers)
Why aren’t tobacco companies paying? Why aren’t oil companies paying to clean the air we breath?
It’s not crazy, it’s actually quite a good idea, and it might work to decrease cost long term, if it works. You just need to have an open mind to a new idea.
I’m Scottish and I would just like to make it clear this is not happening everywhere up here, I’m speechless, how can any sane person support this?
Of course not, these people have their own responsibility not to smoke, and if they get addicted it’s their own fault. If the government started doing this, not only does it have a high potential for abuse due to a lack of ability to monitor the person, but you’re essentially using FORCE (government is force) to take money away from people (stealing from people) who avoided smoking, and giving it to people, solely because they made their own force-free decision (albeit a bad one) to begin smoking.
That’s like offering overly obese people money to go on a diet. (McDonald’s has been shown to be addictive too, you know)
We can’t protect everyone, people need to be responsible for themselves.

I am a smoker and i think this is ridiculous, but not surprising considering alcoholics recieve money to feed their habit, the government have their priorities all wrong. If their not lining their own pockets their dishing money out to a useless cause.
What’s there to stop people from claiming to be smokers or worse, even taking up the habit just to get some *free* cash for not doing something theyshouldn’t be doing in the first place?
If anyone deserves to be paid, it’s second hand breathers for having to put up with smokers.

The English should be given a referendum to leave the United Kingdon. Let the Scots pay for their own give-aways.
We’ll be much better off if we leave. We won’t have to subsidise Northern Ireland, Wales or Scotland.
The Scots have been given their own Parilament and now theyre trying to arrange referendum to get out of UK. Let them go – or better still – lets just leave the UK. We have no more obligation to stay in it than they have. So lets vote out.
