What is the best way to quit smoking?

I have smoked for 20 years now and I’m tired of it. I’ve tried many times but for some reason I can’t quit. I guess my will power is not strong enough. Help!

there are quite a few ways to quit , theres the patch , chewing gum (regular gum works to get your mind off the smokes) or you can partake in these meetings to help people quit smoking , they have those in most clinics and they are innexpensive. or a do it yourself is to get into exercise like running , walking , or jogging , something to get you moving , hope this helps

Its all a will power game.
Think of dirty black smoke entering into the pink lining of your throat and settling on your transparent clear lungs. Think of those tar particles settling on the tiny bronchi of your lungs and your lung cells getting suffocated under that black smog. Imagine millions of such particles penetrating your cell spaces and entering your blood stream and sticking themselves to the healthy red blood cells. They piggyback on ur blood cells and go everywhere in your body. Every smoke that you inhale takes thousands of such pirates who cut your lungs by their tiny black daggers and rip your body apart slowly and slowly. Imagine dirty black semen trickling from your penis and your girl screaming and running in fear. If that’s not enough think of coughing continuously for hours in your old age when you dint have the energy to get up and spit it out. The blood oozing from your mouth splattering all over your face and your son looking down at you with disgust.

For starters, don’t pick the cigarette up.
    Does that help? lol

Besides that one, there are not a whole lot of choices left. You will definitely have to try to distract yourself whenever you get the urge though. Don’t give up. And don’t be too hard on yourself. You are not the only one who feels controlled by nicotine. One choice at a time. Making the right decision every time. The urge may never completely go away, but it can be done.
    Best of luck!

I am glad that you want to quit and that you asked this question.

There are a variety of ways to quit: gum, patches, inhalers. But the most proven method for people to quit and stay away from smoking is cold turkey. People to quit cold turkey today are more likely to stay smoke free 5 years from now.

Another important point is that most people who smoke do have difficulties with patience. So the further my advice is also a relaxation program.

    1. Take the decision to quit.
    2. Empower yourself with the will to overcome the physical addiction. Telling yourself and others that you don’t have the willpower is one indication that you will not succeed – this is your crutch that you fall back on the next time you feel that urge to smoke … “it’s not my fault, I don’t have the willpower”. YOU DO!!! IT’S ALL INSIDE YOU!!!

Nicotine is a serious drug that has a strong chemical hold on your body – but your body’s physical requirement for the nicotine will only last about 7-10 days after quitting, but the psychological addiction is the worse – - – the need to have something stuck into your mouth, the mental association of the smell with the physiological effect of the drug.

You can use patches or gums to ease off the effect of the physical addiction, but keep in mind that they contain a dose of nicotine which is the very drug that you’re trying to come off of . . . what they in fact do is make the withdrawl from the physical addiction easier.

But nothing will work if you have not taken the decision for yourself to quit and if you have not said to yourself with confidence THIS IS IT! NO MORE! I AM IN CONTROL! Once you are able to say that and believe it, you will stop smoking forever, no matter what path or method you choose.

If you feel you need help with this, there are support groups you can join or private therapy sessions which will help you get to that point of confidence in yourself.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

There is only one way-to convince yourself that you can quit. And quit the habit right now without a single hesitative thought about ur ability to quit.

I know it hurts, but cold turkey really is the only way. On the plus side, there is a good solid reason why… nicotine (+other stuff) messes with the production of some of your brain chemicals. More specifically, it prevents some of the chemicals from ever being made at all -it replaces them. So when you remove the nicotine there is a big chemical “hole” in your brain, and your body freaks out. Yuk. However, until you remove the nicotine ENTIRELY your body WILL NOT make the chemicals it is supposed to. Those cravings you feel are your body being unused to having to make certain things. It *will* go away – you just have to give your brain time to adapt. That’s why trying to “wean” yourself doesn’t work – your body is still getting some outside help, and therefore doesn’t need to kick in and start working on its own.
Join a class of quitters! or take a vacation without ‘em, or if it is your style, educate yourself on every facet of the addiction. Sometimes knowing what is going on helps.
And lastly, let’s pop the “It only hurts me” BS bubble. When you get sick from the sticks – and you will – who is going to take care of you, and how are they going to feel about it? Think long and hard about that, because smokers don’t usually just keel over. They linger, slowly and painfully, sucked away from the inside. They need constant care. Who is going to take care of you?
I am a 35 year old woman whose entire life (as well as that of her six year old daughter) has had to be put on hold to care for her bedridden 58 (!) year old mother. Do you want your kids to be wiping your butt in bed because emphysema has robbed you of the ability to stand? Do you want your grandchildren to have no image of you except with tubes stuck in your nose? Do you want your kids to resent you and fill your last years with bitterness, anger and an absolute lack of even a drop of pity at your very real suffering?
The pain of this lasts for months or years – and for how much longer in the hearts of others? Your brain will right itself in a matter of 6 to 8 weeks. Which makes more sense? You can do it!!! Quit N-O-W! Not tomorrow, not next week, N-O-W!! Do it do it do it do it do it!!!

This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

    Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

    The Allen Carr Method
    HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

    The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

    TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

    No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
    It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
    You need not gain weight.
    You will not miss smoking.

    Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”…I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

    Celebrity Endorsements

“His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
    Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
    Sir Anthony Hopkins

    GOOD LUCK

The best way will be the way that you find when you are truly ready.

That is what I found when I quit last year after 40 years of smoking and trying to stop many times. The way that helped me was with an electronic cigarette. Now I don’t smoke either and my life and bank account are healthier.
